i ran for a while, it ended up ripping the front engine bracket to pieces and buggering the front crossmember.

Im now using a standard 1 packed with polyeurothane glue to stiffen it up, and an early rear golf 1 with eurothane bugpack insert

I did wonder.
I think I'll just go standard.I guess they need some play in them.

Why would you actually want a solid engine mount anyway? Surely that would mean more torsional stress on the driveshafts etc anyway?

diesel rear mounts are supposed to be a little less wibbly too Smile

so that for a game of soldiers.
I'm just going to get a new OEM one.
If I have to change it again later on as it gets limp so be it.

The Vibratechs unit's aren't solid, they aren't cheap either though. Thinking about one for the VR as the shrick doesn't fit under the bonnet properly.

bummer.
So what have other people done then?

I have seen the vibratchs one.
I guess if you want the best stuff you have to pay.
Sad

So changing the mount.
just a case of undoing the mount bolt and hoisting the engine up ?
5 min job?
I have an engine crane.

People cut a bit out of the bonnet support, and tend to go for uprated mounts just to make sure it doesn't get beaten too much.

Shouldn't take too long to do, might need to remove the front mount bracket from the engine depending on the room you have. You might find it easier to sit the engine on a jack.

I ran the diesel 1 and to be honest made bugger all difference so went Vibratechnics competition all round, massive difference it made to the gear change and cornering and also more smooth in a straight line too. Apparently the road versions are not much more uprated than stock.
