ORLY?
Shame you had to faff around with it. Some things are never simple, are they?

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
I've just got an email to say your thread had been updated. I was out last night celebrating and was hungover this morning. I wished I'd seen this earlier as the easiest fix I hate to say would of been to remove the intermediate shaft and have the oil pump drive gear put on a lathe and the machined to clear!
Oh well you'll be fine I'm sure, good to have the rods balanced anyway for high rpm smooth running. Mine varied in weight and were balanced up end to end.

Nope.
There is always a catch.Ah well.
Worst things happen at sea.
Just annoying as I wanted to start building the bottom end up,rather than tearing it down.

Spoke to engr.
He said with so little material removed that I needn't worry.
I trust his judgement. He has been quick to point out ant work that he thinks needs doing in the past so that's that.
I'm going to put them back in.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
not sure tbh.
I want to just take my time and do it right.
I could slap it all back together now in a week, but there are a few things i'd like to do now,i.e finish a catch tank, get some arp bolts and fit one of daves fan controllers.
Some other stuff too but I forget.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
Well done. There a bit of a difference in that ACE block!! plenty of meat to the gasket surface!! weird didn't think they were that different to 6A blocks!! Breath hole at the front is huge too. Remember you telling me they were slightly different!

They seem like a cross between the later tall blocks and the older short blocks.
I.e quite a few bits from my ABF fit onto it like the oil filter housing for instance and the plastic engine breather.
The "bubble" at the base of the block has a different shape too.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
Wooo! Never told me about this. Weight before and after please? Looks like a nice job. So has it been refaced and weight taken from the outer edge?

yeah from the outer edge.He said that it had a fair bit of bad casting on it and it is alot flatter now.
Weights b4 and after.
I'd say its a bag of sugar lighter.
Sorry,I neglected to weigh it.I just left it to their good judgement.
I'm crap,I know.
It's a standard g60 item.
So i'll weigh it over the weekend.
I'm sure we can get the standard weight after.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
A mig welder came up for a ton and i couldn't resist.
Mig welding is much faster.Good for zapping things together.
This one is the same price new as the SIP one I had from Halfords.
The SIP one was utter ****.
Seriously,it was awful.I layed better welds after half an hour with this than I did with weeks with the other one.
Utter tosh.
Anyway..
Always research b4 buying expensive tools.
