Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
Lol!
I know what you mean though. I want to fiddle with stuff, even though it doesn't need fiddling with, and I can't afford to do it anyway....

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
I got really bored one winter, about november time and took a chop-saw and a jigsaw to a perfectly good G60 inlet manifold! Just to satisfy my curiosity!
It dangerous to get too bored, I started trying to handbrake the Audi 90 around field track corners with big ditches! Ooops! Nearly! Need a more entertaining car to stiop me killing myself! I got the G60 back on the road 2 weeks later!

Yup.
I have come so close to spending more money I don't have in the last few days through boredom. Need to get someone to drive the VR while I sit in the back listening to noises so I can actually fix stuff for free.

Are you going to cc the pistons before assembly?

You live to spend my money.
I have bought new oil/water seals and gaskets bearings the lot.

I broke my glass cc'ing thing.
Might be interesting though as I think some VW heads have slightly different volumes.

..hmm.
on cylinder #4 the rod catches the end of the cog on the end of the intermediate shaft.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
How badly? Could you take a little material off one or the other?

it would have to be the rod..
but you can imagine all the reasons why I'd be reluctant to do so.
I specifically asked them about my engine type etc.
They are for 1.8T's but they said that they use the same rods etc.
How do the 1.8T's drive their oil pumps?

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
it wouldn't be a great deal of material, you can apply a little force and get it to turn pass the point of contact but as you can see I've have been trying so hard to curb my "it will do" leanings and do everything properly so this is a bit of a blow.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
If you were to remove a little material, then you should do it to all of the rods. Plus you need to take into consideration the forces throwing the rod around and thermal expansion.
I dunno dude. On one hand I'd be tempted to get a flat file out and take a little material off, on the other, I'd not want to consider it.

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
yeah..i know I'd need everything balanced out properly.
So really and truthly I'm better off getting rods that will clear rather than pay an engineer for the extra work.
I kinda want my money back.
dunno.
Grr.
Or i can take off the necessary material off one rod and then take all 4 to be balanced..

Re: DIrtyTorque's odd corner.
yup.
always good to have a nights sleep.
Marked up the point of contact.Luckily it was a nice place. The material there will not be load bearing and we are only talking about shaving off a couple of mil.
Believe you me this is not what I wanted but I am building a turbo bottom end so I can't really use the OE items.
Point of contact.

Modified to clear.

There goes my warranty.
I'll take all 4 to my engineer in the week so he can look at the weight differential.
