Hang on your not using a knock sensor! YOU have a whacking great tube bolted to the engine and dayglow orange ear defenders for knock detection!

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Can I ask about the runnber fitting and the metal pipe coming from the breather?
I want to feed the breather into the boost return and that might do the job.
Where did u get it from mate?

The rubber reducing hose is off the old car I pulled it out of the pile of engine bits I kept but then it was a bit knackered so I got a new one the black pipe again is off the old car. I still haven't plumbed up the breather return, just being lazy really. You can get them from an audi dealer or TPS dealer. About 5 quid I think.

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
So Chris, am I right in thinking you are getting a head done to go with your bottom end?
Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Yes I am! I can't leave it as it is. I'd die with a big unanswered question in my mind. It will be a direct comparison to the spec of the current engine. Same cam same charger same everything except for a change of injectors to suit and a new fuel pump just incase the old one is weakening.
I'll have it mapped at chipwizards again and then take it over to Awesome-GTi. Should be interesting to see how things change. Valves and valve train will remain the same also. Oh I'll probably leave the current gearbox in aswell so the numbers won't get fluffed by the change in ratios. It's a good excuse not to do the gearbox this summer as well, as quite frankly I really can't be bothered.
I am, as I like to put it, "getting my money's worth" out of the changes by stretching them out over the forthcoming years and testing out each change. Bit worried I'd be tempted to sell if I produced the perfect G60 8v Corrado daily road weapon to quickly!
Plus I can't afford to do them all at once.
There is also a possibility of me producing a slightly larger capacity PG based bottom end with a higher CR at some point in the future, but starting that'll be some years off I would imagine.

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
So going on the 'cylinder filling' thread, are you going for a head optimised on the exhaust ports? Who are you getting to do the head work?

JP of JNL Racing is doing the work. It will use a stock intake manifold, TB and the charger will have no porting work so there will still be one last stage/push for power to go with this engine.

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Thought you might have asked JP
It'd be very nice to see you get the most out of that bottom end I think seeing what can be achieved off a standard charger will be very interesting too. 99% of the G60s you see are just a big charger with a remap, which although seems to give results, isn't the best engineering as far as I'm concerned.

It'll be interesting to see what changes when a ported charger is bolted up to this resultant engine. It'd be nice to see how far I can climb this league table aswell!

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Cool!
Do you plan to do anything to the valve gear (3 angle cut, diff springs etc) as well as the porting/polishing, while you are at it?

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
I would imagine the seats will be performance recut as part of the porting work. I'll be leaving the valve-train as it is unless any of the springs compression tests come back as below spec. Not sure but I think solid lifters would require a cam change which I don't want to do.

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
OK, so cars running fine. It's had a few months off over the Christmas/Winter Period and other than the exhaust needing adjusting, it's fine. But I've been saving and have some images of the head work that's coming my way.

So, what's the secondary angle for on the valve on the left?

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Err, it's a flow aid and for centering the valve afaik oh and it's 30˚ I think. JP can answer better.

Air does not like going round corners so the smaller the corners the better. Optimum flow would be a perferct radius but then you loose torque due to fuel mixing innefficiency so stepped corners work best on the intake valve.

Re: 2008cc 8.75:1 CR 3A G60 build.
Well after many emails, numbers, and a supreme effort by JP, behold the current ultimate counter flow 8v G60 head and manifold!
Seriously though a lot of effort has gone into this head and manifold and it seems over the whole lift cycle of the intake and exhaust with a schrick 268/276 cam all available exhaust flow has been utilised by the intake flow without the gas speed suffering.
Some pictures........

I think the images speak for themselves, thanks again JP for your efforts can't wait to see the final results at the end of the summer.
I don't want to go into too much detail on the work that has been done as it's JP's creation and ultimately his R&D work so I'll leave it to JP to divulge the information he wishes to be public knowledge.
