Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
Ive got a problem with my new pump set up...its loud as feck, cant hear the car idle...thats how loud!
It sounds like its been starved of fuel and picking up air pockets.
So i removed the standard fuel pump as and plumped a pipe direct from the 044,it was better but still sounding like air was being picked up.
Ive tried a combination of fuel filter before and after the pump with no better results.
Im running -6 fuel lines to the pump and i think these are to small and the pump needs at min of -10 hose sizes! im going to put the pump in a bucket tommorow so it has direct feed and go from there.
If its sorted im going to have to fettle the pump to sit in the tank and try to use the original swirl pot/pump housing to stop air being picked up.
Any thought?

No,sorry but I do remember Mr Haywire saying that those pumps are quite noisy.
is it more the "sucking on air noise" that is disconcerting ?

Both,i have read that they are noisey...but it drowns out the exhaust and engine tone!
I am going to mount it in the tank,i cant live with the noise!
My car is a sleeper.......not with this pump running

Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
What rail pressure are you running it at? 3 bar?
I bet it's a lot quieter if you run it at 4 bar.

And also check that you DO have at least 12volts at the pump.

Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
Right...(i could not wiat! ) sorted the pump noise, its still external as i had it before! thumbs up i can still use the set-up i made!
The main problem was with stock intank pump, itwas is to weak! So i dug out my old walbro 255 pump, bought a walbro pre filter sock, droped this into the tank and plumbed it back into the 044 still using -6 fittings and fuel lines in and out the 044.
Now the 044 is smooth and quiet! just a light hum from under the car...nice!
Still sorting the intank set up,but im sure the walbro prefilter sock will help allot here,as it allows fuel to be drawn in from all angles of the sock...and its around 4" long, infact you can dip the tip of the sock into the fuel and have the pump well out of the fuel and it still draws fuel!!!
Even when you remove the pump from the fuel it takes up to 8sec before the 044 starts to moan!
My fuel pressure is still set to 3,5bar and is rock steady now!
Will update as i go along.

Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
Excellent, good to know!
I'll be using my existing Walbro intank to feed the 044 aswell then.
Let me know how you get on with surging problems. If you don't get any, then there's no need for a surge tank, simple as

Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
it will be a while befor i can see if i have any surging problems with this set up,ive got so little fuel in the tank at the mo the gauge reads past the little white line! but the sock is half coverd and still does not draw air.
Plus i have the return pipe direct ontop of the sock so it should be covered in fuel most of the time.
This is my hacked to death original housing! the sock faces towards the rear of the tank.

Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
Do all in-tank pumps have that little sock? Is that actually a filter as well?
Re: Problems with bosch 044 fuel pump.
yea some do as standard, its more a prefilter to keep the pump free from larger debris rather than a fine filter
