The deal is that the valves are sat too high in the head. Material can be taken off the valves or out of the inside of the lifters. I haven't decided what to do yet. Do it the right way or do it the easy way!

How come they aren't fully closing then? Any ideas? Did JP only do the porting?

After the throats were opened and the seats and valves recut the valves now sit that much deeper into the head. I didn't send JP the cam or lifters so he did a vac test as it was and it seemed fine but the valves aren't closing when a cam and lifters are installed. Good enough JP is covering the cost of having this sorted out and now I have another vehicle I can wait for the work to be done. Had me scratching my head some what though! Oh and Congrats Mr Biege and tying the knot. The knot gets tighter every year by the way! Laughing Gets even tighter when kids start swinging on the other end of the rope! lol!

It's all good then Smile and fair play to JP for doing that. It gives me confidence that there are still some good businesses and people out there.

So what is the remedial work that is required? Moving the valve seats?

No the valves get shortened by 0.25-0.5mm in a machine of some sort. Quite common apparently for some height to be taken off the valves when seats are recut. You live and learn. Suspect

Yeah my Inca Blue was starting to rust through where it had had bad repairs, leaky battery, cheap copy parts/wrong parts fitted, carpark dings, etc. so I convinced Rob to sell me his Inca Blue and I'm going to make 1 good car out of the two. My car mechanically is superb so the two of them should make one very good car. I was never going to cough up the cash to have all that body work done with my constant engineering obsession! Laughing

But now when I move over into Rob's Inca I'll have a structurally perfect but ugly car going spare that I can do what I like with!! Smile Ghetto VRT here we go! Laughing Or something! 4WD what ever I fancy really! Should keep me busy for the next 5 years!!

Oh decided the exhaust system will not be making it onto the new car. G-Werks Manifold will be sold and the through exhaust mated to what ever ends up under the engine bay! Gonna have the cast manifold mildly ported and buy a VW long life exhaust! Will even keep the CAT! I will be 40 in a few years and how stupid will I look driving around with a b'stard loud exhaust! Plus they annoy me blah balh blah!

Now that would be a right laugh Very Happy Just sand all the paint off, let it rust and look tatty as hell, but with a kick **** engine under the hood Cool

ctwg60 wrote:Gonna have the cast manifold mildly ported and buy a VW long life exhaust! Will even keep the CAT!

Sounds like a good plan! I like cat converters. I've always liked the refined smells they produce, as opposed to the stinky over-rich Austin Metro smells you get from not having a cat!! It just makes the car smell like an old beater and I think Corrados deserve better than that Very Happy

And speaking of cats, I've had this one sitting around in the garage for ages, so out of curiousity I threw it onto my downpipe over the weekend.

I took it out for a spin, expecting to feel the blunted performance you read so much about on t'internet but it immediately felt livlier everywhere in the rev range! Very Happy
It's a "High flow" cat but, even so, I still expected a slight drop in performance, especially as it's turboed, but nope!!

I'm not questioning it though Very Happy

Yep I've decided I want a corrado I can just go mental with, spend nothing on bodywork or cosmetics and just go crazy under the bonnet, crazy within some sort of budget that is. With Brentacre's max bhp insurance schemes I can have a lot of freedom to do what I like. Very Happy

The other car will be my quick but respectable and non-to-shabby, daily! Smile But first I have to get this engine back together! Bang head 2

Oooooooo, now we are talking! 4WD V6 turbo loveliness FTW

I love the idea of a car that 'looks' unkempt, but goes like stink! A proper 'rat', rather than a fake one with a stupid roofrack with bike and a tiny engine! lol

Nope I managed to get 2hrs on it all weekend, B'day party x 2, excessive gardening (wifes idea Rolling Eyes ) and horse duties, etc. Managed to get the head bolted on cambelt on and exhaust manifold bolted up! Rather disconcertingly 2 x head bolts got easier to turn at the end of their 180˚ turns. Suspect Used copper grease too. Neutral Thinking of just ignoring this fact! Crying or Very sad

Yeah it could of just been a torsional stress release between the threads, I'm hoping!! Can't believe I managed to over stretch 2 bolts with a 2 ft bar and I never actually put 180˚ on any of the bolts. I never do it just seems wrong to put that much into it!

40nm then 60nm the 180˚. If the head gasket goes and then I have a snapped bolt in the block on trying to remove the bolts to replace the gasket then I'm gonna 4cking sue someone! Slapfight
