ctwg60 wrote:EDIT: Funny what you say about the gearboxes being seen as a "white good". My son who is 6 and has no idea how a car works/is driven thinks the gear stick is the go faster lever. I've unintentionally given him the biggest engineering lesson of his life! Well maybe an exaggeration.
Yeah even at that age kids know the higher the gear number, the faster you go!
It's funny watching a kid try and release the handbrake though
Heard reports from the VRT crowd that SQS keep you waiting for ages and there can be some quality issues too if you're unlucky. They certainly handle the grunt though, if you remember that picture of a shattered 02A casing I posted a while back? Gears all intact, casing blown to smithareens (sp>?), and that was with 800whp, LOL! Remarkable a trans designed for a 200hp VR6 can sustain that level of abuse.

In a hilly area!
So, do I save for a AWD twin 1.8t car build, or a eurospecsport box. Hmm, decisions, decisions...
SQS is a bit pricey now the Euro=UKPound pretty much!

Re: 02S gearboxes
Yeah another vote for Eurospec as it's pretty much the Gemini set and VW Motorsport end casing!
If you make some enquiries, let us know as I could be interested too!

Re: 02S gearboxes
Will do. Won't be any time soon for me either. Christmas + credit cards + recent prang = zero funds
I would have been all over Leon's Gemini kit for £1K otherwise!!! He's a generous man. Paid £1250 for that and letting it go for £1K and it's never seen a gear casing!!

Re: 02S gearboxes
Yip. Single track road. 2 cars in front of me. Went to overtake both of them, girl in front indicated and turned into me. She either thought she could sneak in front or me or just didn't see me, but I was already overtaking and she did the manuovre, so her fault.
Nearside front wing folded in a bit on the swage lines and wheel spokes all scuffed up. Not horrendous, but still enough to be a nuiscance and make me out of pocket

Re: 02S gearboxes
A GIRL! Nearly did exactly the same to me but no indication, a car had pulled over so she just thought I'll drive round it but there was me right next to her on my horn swearing. 4cking hell lady, MIRROR, SIGNAL MANEUVER. Fortunatley we were on a dual carriage way with just enough space for all three of us.
