Paddle Clutches..
As above, what's the difference between a 'normal' clutch and a paddle clutch and what are the advantages/disadvantages for street use for both??
Re: Paddle Clutches..
As far as I understand them, paddle clutches run cooler as there's less friction material, so can take a bit more oomph, perhaps?. I would imagine the reduction in friction area tends to go hand in hand with sticker lining material and stiffer pressure plate springs, but I'm sure someone else will step in with the facts
Paddlers can be a bit tricky to modulate at slow speeds as they can be a bit grabby, but it depends on brand / spec.
Centreforce clutches are a nice balance I think. They have a dual compound friction disc. Normal disc on one side, paddles on the other. Aswell as that, the pressure plate springs pivot on roller bearings, which both reduces pedal effort and smoothes the bite take up.
Next time my box comes off, a Centreforce will be going in

Drove a paddle clutch in an Escort Cosworth and that was way grabby at slow speed, needed plenty of revs not to stall it, but on the move you could feel it grabbing for the good, it just put the power down and foobared off.

So for a daily, a paddle clutch wouldn't be ideal then, especially if you spend a lot of time in traffic?
Re: Paddle Clutches..
sounds like they would grate on my nerves in break light traffic.

Re: Paddle Clutches..
they work well with duel mass flywheels, but most the centres on padle clutches are solid without the damper springs,so it has no means of "slack "you could do wth on daily driving hence why the duel mass takes up the slack.

They can be used in traffic but would be very annoying and you need legs like Jeff Capes.
