Anyone run one?
Noisy as hell i guess?!
Thinking maybe i could fab one from my current one.I understand g60's are all stainless affairs?
Also anyone ever cut a cat with the intention of re-welding without the gubbins?
Ta.

Re: straight thru exhaust
When i had my current custom exhaust made up whilst supercharged still, it was built with the forth coming turbo conversion in mind, ie free flowing and larger bore, it has 3 boxes all straight through and the drive home was hell, veeeeerrrrry loud and thats brand new before the system settled down as they do and get louder.
Obviously turbocharging would quieten down 2 like for like exhausts.
Why do you wanna use the cat without the gunnins?

Re: straight thru exhaust
My system was 2.5" with cat bypass, and only the backbox and was loud so i welded in a 3" mongoose front box from a cossie where the cat was and it quietened it right down and is now very bearable.
Cant hear it over the charger anyways

Re: straight thru exhaust
It might be worth looking into what TechTonics do, as the exhaust on Mic's and indeed Kev's car are 2.5" all the way through. No reduction in diameter through the silencers like some exhausts and they are ever so quiet when pootling about and sound lovely when giving some beans. They use Borla silencers. I think that a straight through exhaust will just give you a headache, and nothing more....

I want to take out any restriction in the exhaust.

Re: straight thru exhaust
I think you should be able to just knock the innards out. A mate did that on his Polo GT.dirtytorque wrote:junkie wrote:

Re: straight thru exhaust
Running a true 3"from the turbo back, using 1 sport cat for emmissions, 1 centre box and one back box all straight thru. Silent till 2000rpm starts droning at motorway speed 2500-3000rpm (joys of stainless). then goes into a full blown but subdued rasp over 4000rpm.

Re: straight thru exhaust
It's that droning at motorway speed I cannot stand. It's always at 3000rpm, or 70mph, so you find yourself speeding to get out of the rpm band that's causing the booming.
I will be building a 3" system this year and I'll be using either 2 Borla turbo silencers or 1 silencer plus a resonator or 2. The Borlas I'm currently using in my 2.5" are both very free flowing and practically silent. The only time I hear it is at idle, and it's just a bassy thrum. I'm hoping going up to 3" won't make it too droney, but I might use a thicker gauage pipe than normal to further reduce the chance of motorway droning.

I have heard of this however I think for the effort involved you could just weld flanges on the end of a straight pipe and keep your cat for MOT's
I am also going for a full 3" custom system on mine so I have a cat bypass that will be up for grabs, its a VR fitment but I dont really know if the G60's are any different? I also have a custom straight through pipe that deletes the middle box (in between the rear wheels) this made the system quite a bit louder but only in certain rev ranges.

Re: straight thru exhaust
There is no actual requirement to have a CAT fitted to your car for an MOT only that you pass the emissions test for cars of a certain year. You could create a MOT map Rob for your MOT days so you can pass the test without a CAT unless you think you can pass the test with your normal map. You have the skills Rob!
having a three box system with the first box having a perforated tube inside really reduces the noise from a straight through system. Mine was ridiculous until I got the perforated tube fitted.

Is that what is refered to as a resonator? My Valver has one I think...ctwg60 wrote:<SNIP>having a three box system with the first box having a perforated tube inside really reduces the noise from a straight through system. Mine was ridiculous until I got the perforated tube fitted.
Re: straight thru exhaust
Mine used to pass the emissions officially when 1st done on standalone, and it still passes now with only 0.03 whatever it is that your allowed to go upto 3.50.

Re: straight thru exhaust
Hey flusted, off topic I know, but just had a look at some of your other youtube vids. Nice bit of scratching, I can mix fine (more of a breaks man myself) but scratching is still a bit of a black art to me.
Anyway, on the exhaust front. As Stu said my techtonics system is 2.5" straight through and is very well mannered at normal driving speeds but comes alive if you put your foot down. Kev's got the same system but his is even quieter!
