Re: Spun bearing
Spun big end bearings will give a knocking sound that will speed up and slow down with rpm.
Whereas a buggered mains bearing will give more of a continous rumble coupled with low oil pressure if all of them are gone.

Re: Spun bearing
Hmmm, the Golf has a slight knocking sound at idle, so I'm now a little worried
Would the knocking sound be particularly loud? Would it gradually get worse?

Re: Spun bearing
Hot or cold? Does the sound go if you depress the clutch?
Need to outrule the other ancills first too and tappets etc. I had a terrible rattle / knocking once and it was nothing more than a knackered serpentine belt!

Re: Spun bearing
My VR makes a funny noise that speeds up and slows down with revs, kinda tap... tap.... wait for a while.... tap... tap... I think it's something to do with the timing chain though.
