Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
Any ideas?
I saw someone ask this very question of CF and it has been something I have been considering also.
For instance the standard KR cams.Do these make good cams ona boosted application?
I have read that a vernier is a must?!??!?
Ta.

Re: Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
ABF and KR camshafts are similar with about 254° duration but ABF camshafts have higher lift so can potentially give better cylinder filling (10,76int/10,73exh mm for the ABF and only 9,2int/10,21exh mm for the KR)
Re: Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
You'll find the ABF's also have a milder overlap due to emisions over the KR's so again it will aid FI slightly better.

Less wasted boost might be a better way to put it. But yeah.

I am beginning to think that cams are a "black art".
In some ways it feels like robbing peter to pay paul,i.e taking torque from one area to get more in another.

Its just all about matching the cam to the engine spec and also what you want from the engine, power target, power range etc, both go hand in hand.

That extra bit of lift isn't gaining you anything then? Is it the same duration as the normal inlet though?VEEDUBBED wrote:I'm running a modded exhaust cam but to be honest

Re: Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
its it the case that usually is with the modded exhaust cam trick where the sprocket hasnt been corrected for the 5.7 degree difference?
My standard except a 4 branch and proper modded zorst cam 1.8 made 163bhp on rollers at stealth

Re: Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
so did you have a new keyway cut in the chainwheel or an adjustable chainwheel?

Re: Cams etc for FI 16v applications.
you can get away with flipping the pulley over and remarking TDC a lot easier than machining a new keyway and gauranteed to be a 100% correct.

REally? i did wonder that when we started doing them. I had a new keyway cut and it allowed all the marks to line up and gave good power from 2k

Rob, not sure if you've researched these but i've heard a lot of good things mainly from VWVortex about Autotech FI cam grinds for 16v. Whether this is just one person who likes them and another 7000 agreeing I don't know (my FI cam research was all done last summer, and as you know it's all windowshopping at the moment!) but might be worth getting some tech specs on their cams if you can?
