I'll post up some pictures later, as they arrived yesterday

I reckon if I could find a machine shop, it might be possible to copy the ones I've got. The are only made of tubular alloy.

Give it some serious thought Stu.
Id obviously pay as long as it was cost effective.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
Have you got a 20v fuel rail then? I got mine with manifold and injectors for only £50.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
not thought of using an s2 manifold stu?
I havn't closed to the book on that option either although I'm not sure then if my throttle body would fit.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
So have you got everything you need, and are you clear in your head about your install?
Are you using a relay board or are you just going to use the vw fuse panel?
Have you got your base config on there?

Not got everything yet. I want to ensure that I can get it all fitted in one go really.dirtytorque wrote:So have you got everything you need, and are you clear in your head about your install?

I was intending on using the existing fuseboard, if I can, although, that might not be as easy as it sounds.
Right, here are some piccies of the fuel rail adapters, and them fitted to the rail

Re: Gooney - being reborn
I've got some MK4 GTi injectors. Just need to get them cleaned, and they should be fine, well that's what I've been told anyway.
Re: Gooney - being reborn
Project Gooney on hold 'til after the wedding.....it WILL get finished though
Re: Gooney - being reborn
Stu, I was just wondering what made you decide to go the MSnS Extra route, I'm not all that familiar with it and was wondering if it has any advantages over the regular code?

12 x 12 dual maps, various additional features and you can run EGT. Not fitted any of it yet, so we'll have to see....andydavy wrote:Stu, I was just wondering what made you decide to go the MSnS Extra route, I'm not all that familiar with it and was wondering if it has any advantages over the regular code?
Re: Gooney - being reborn
Well, it's looking like Gooney will be going on the road sooner rather than later! Only in standard form until after the wedding though....

Re: Gooney - being reborn
Well, maybe not Can't risk soemthing going wrong with it and ending up out of pocket before the wedding....ah well, it was a good thought...less than 4 months to go anywaymrbeige wrote:Well, it's looking like Gooney will be going on the road sooner rather than later!
Re: Gooney - being reborn
Whilst I'm thinking about this twin turbot malarky, do you think it's a bit ambitious for my first project? Well, I say first project, I mean one that I might actually finish...
Re: Gooney - being reborn
Get it all up and running is the main idea I'd suggest, and to that end I'd say making everything as straight forward as possible is he best idea.......... regardless of how cool a twin turbo setup would be.
I mean it's a sound, tried and tested build the old 16vT. And the rest of us are only having the one turbo.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
Yeah, but you will have a few more valves and a couple more cylinders! Twin turbo is the way forward Could go for a single setup first, then progress to the twin.....I supposemic_VR wrote:Get it all up and running is the main idea I'd suggest, and to that end I'd say making everything as straight forward as possible is he best idea.......... regardless of how cool a twin turbo setup would be.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
I certainly agree mate, twin turbo set up can definitely be the future but if you want it up and running then simple might be a good start.
You know what i've been like with changing ideas/second thoughts and worries etc, maybe you should do what you told me and just not worry about it until you're almost ready to start. ie after the wedding.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
Indeed mate, but I'm happy enough thinking about it. It keeps me sane, pondering over which direction to go in. I also love the idea of an Eaton'd VRmic_VR wrote:I certainly agree mate, twin turbo set up can definitely be the future but if you want it up and running then simple might be a good start.

Re: Gooney - being reborn
Ok, so bringing myself back down from the clouds, I'm starting to think more clearly about what I plan to do. With the wedding only about 2 months away, I'm starting to consider my plan of action for Project Gooney-Turbot.
I think the first stop will be of course to get him on the road, i.e. MOT and tidy up the exterior as best I can, so once that's done, this shall be the course of action....
1) Fit MS using the standard dizzy and standard ignition coil, but use a VR airbox, Mk4 1.8T IAT sensor, generic TPS, (or indeed if I can find one, a Passat Auto throttle body), Innovate Wideband with sensor mounted at the bottom of the downpipe**, standard inlet, mk4 1.8T injectors fitted using G60 injector inserts etc etc.
2) I'll think about this later, but considering running the turbo on the standard engine with a spacer plate, for proof of concept (if you catch my drift), whilst I build up the 'proper' engine in the garage. Think I'm going to dump the 2E block and find myself an ABF, as it has crank trigger wheel in the block, but maybe either use the 2E rods and some forged pistons or indeed get some forged rods too.
3) I have a further pipe dream that involves a DSG gearbox and a CAN gateway module, that the company I work for produces, to make it all work, but that is very much pie in the sky.
** Actually, is that the best place to mount it, or would it be better much closer to the exhaust port but just running off one cylinder?

Re: Gooney - being reborn
All i know is it needs mounting on the top of the pipe to prevent moisture getting in, although mine was mounted on the side.
I would say your better off having it not so close to the ports.
