What size / thread are the main bolts that attach the gearbox to the block?

Splendid, thanks for that!

The exact same reason why I need them too Very Happy

So I guess you mount the spider's legs of the stand to the block, then get an assistant to help you lift it up and drop onto the stand? Unless you're heman and can lift it yourself of course Laughing

Schimmel can't get any more 264/260 cams until frickin may Mad

Yeaj, I have a bare block so it's not incredibly heavy. I lifted it up and got a friend to stabilise the stand (why do they have wheels on the bottom anyways? Very Happy ) and all was good.

I bolted it all together lying on the floor at a funny angle, and then lifted the whole thing up onto its wheels but it's a bit of a bodge tbh. the jack on my crane has died else I would use that!

Yeah I just want to get the block on the stand to de-rust and paint it, then fit the ARP rod bolts, bolt the head down etc etc.

I can get the 12V out of the car on a trolley jack with someone holding it steady, but getting the 24V back in without a crane will be fun. I don't wanna pay £200+ for a crane that will more than likely only get used once!!

Ditto, I paid £100 for a cheapo crane which leaked oil everywhere and also got used once.

The 24v is lighter isn't it? iirc, it's an alloy engine.

Machine Mart do a folding one for £180, so I might do that. May aswell have one laying around if I'm playing with boost!

The 24V is iron mate Very Happy

That sounds like a good deal, esp if it can be stored easily! Mine looks like a bunch of red girders in the back garden! Very Happy

I think they're useful things to have. I'm going to have to fix the dodgy seal on my crane jack at some point as I doubt I'll keep a 16v in my C. It's just not enough. I *hate* cars that look quicker than they are (any C under a tuned G60).

I bought one of those ages ago, it has had a reasonable amount of use too, it does fold up nice and flat and has a little locking foot at the bottom to stop it falling over.

I did find the clearance to the bonnet was tight on an engine remove-refit and you need someone else to stop the large pendulum action on the end of the crane when you move the engine but apart from that it works a treat.

Do we know why the Corrado's front end doesn't unbolt a la Passat and Mark 2 golf? Is it for extra rigidity or something?

It does unbolt Mr Panda? As in slam panel etc? The front cross member can come off aswell, leaving you with complete U shape access Very Happy But your would have to bolt the X member back up before you drop the motor down again.

Cheers Yan, sounds like it's a useful crane then. Plenty of space on my drive to swing it around!

i'm genuinely impressed that the C can do this! (although there's no reason why it wouldn't have been able to).

so Kev are you still gonna buy the crane?

Do what mate? I can't see anything hosted on pbucket or flickr etc!

I'm going to see how the engine behaves over the weekend first, before considering myself out of the woods, and then the crane will be put on hold!
