Jerk and quirk

Post by mrbeige on Fri Mar 20, 2009 1:39 am

Well, this is more of an interesting thing rather than anything else. I was doing some work yesterday down at Delphi, and cam across a variable that had engineering units of m/s^3....I thought; 'rate of change of acceleration', never really thought about that, had a brief discussion with a colleague and he said it's referred to as 'jerk'. He also said that there was even a rate of change of the rate of change of acceleration (m/s^4) (or rate of change of jerk) known as 'quirk'....I think if you understand that you should get a job working for NASA or something Laughing Apparently these two are used in camshaft design, hence the interest there...might have to have a read around that subject....

I don't think I'll be looking up Jerks on the work computer!

Quirks used to be chocolates covered in a mint flavoured shell and came in a little brown box. Anyone remember them?
