well the clutch on my evo 6 decided to start slipping slightly the other day, so it's time for a change

i made a start today and have got most of the way to getting it off. i've got the driveshafts, transfer shafts and transfer box off now. i've just got to separate the thrust bearing from the clutch cover (it's a pull clutch so removal involves the gayness of prying the bearing out of the cover with a screwdriver through a tiny access hole in the side of the box).

howdy all

i am at a complete loss as to why i've had two clutches fail on me - and helix items at that!

as i'm sure oyu all know; the pressure plate comes in two parts (one part that butts up against the friction plate and then the other which is the outer casing) and there are three metal straps that hold both parts together. these straps are riveted onto the outer plate.

for some bizzarre and unknown reason my car has destroyed one of these rivets on two separate VR6 helix clutches.

So it's another removal of gearbox to sort out the clutch slippage.

Question is i'm gonna be needing something that will with stand boost spikes

of up to 2Bar turbo press.,1.8 fixed, which will be over 400hp...

The useless 1 i've got now is a Sachs VR press. plate modded with a stronger spring, riinforced Kevlar F1 disc and deeper step machined into the flywheel.

This set-up slips at .8Bar boost, smoke coming out of gearbox bellhousing...

Some1 recommend a good set-up,pref. AP racing etc.

Cheers.

Have a gearbox problem and hoping for some advice please. Also thought I'd try to start a discussion on which LSD is best...

I’ve got a 95 Corrado VR6 (have heard about different gearboxes – don’t know what the difference is but will mine be 02A?) Problem on mine is a clicking noise which only ever happens in 1st gear. I was hoping that it might be CV joints but apparently the noise comes from within the gearbox and is ...

I've bent the standard Corrado VR one twice now. Once with a stock clutch and now with a Helix clutch. It's a common problem, especially with uprated clutches. Stronger pressure plate springs + heat + Mild steel = Bendage.

I'm looking into getting a stronger one custom made from stainless, but in the meantime, does anyone know of a company that makes one already? Or if the 02J part from a TDI diesel is stronger?

Also, does anyone know if the PD TDI 130 228mm ...

right, according to this thread - http://www.clubgti.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=42671

...I can simply swap my hubs for those from an early passat VR and we're good to go with existing 4 stud Corrado CVs, etc.

Can anyone corroborate this? I'll be needing to replace my outer CVS anyway so if it's just easier to press in Corrado VR hubs and matching outer CVs then that's fine, just need to know for sure which works.
