Ok, so now that the Corrado is going to be used as a bit of a track weapon, I need to think about tyres and brake pads.

As we want to be able to drive the Corrado to the track, any tryes need to be road legal. I have little/no knowledge of what is best for the track, so what tyres are the best for track use?

What about brake pads? Again, they don't need to be superb on the road, but of course good on the track. Would Ferodo DS2500 be track worthy? What about EBC red-stuff?

Just been thinking about something Tom said to me the other day about one guy fitting a mk4 head gasket to a VR. He said that it increased compression ratio by 0.5, and that led to an improvement in torque. I been thinking about why that was, and determined that all it does is improve thermal efficiency, and thus make more from the existing fuel air mixture. I did wonder what would happen if you were to increase the compression ratio a further 0.5. Do you think that would improve things still, ...

Morning.

Been reading the latest Evo magazine, im which they looked at the new cloverleaf Alfa Mito which has a new 1.4 engine featuring what they call MultiAir. It features a head with vaves laid out like a DOHC head, it's only 1 camshaft though with lobes for both inlet and exhaust, sat above the exhaust valves.

It has a set of pushrods from the inlet lobes to the front of the head. These pushrods work on what is effectively a set of modified hydraulic tappets, there is an electronically ...

As far as I know the late US VR6s got a plastic inlet manifold with variable geometry, much like the R32s and 24Vs. Now, this should be retrofittable to the older VRs, I assume they just need an adaptor for the throttle body, and a little bit of piping making up?
Does anyone know anything about these? Do they suffer from the same flap fatigue and engine ingestion issues that the BMWs do?

I just bought a new set of spark plugs for the VR, looked at various options and decided on the recommended BKR5EKUP ones, which have platinum tips, now I could have bought the normal ones, or the iridium versions, but I wasn't entirely sure, and as I won't be changing them for some time, I thought I'd spend the extra £20.

But are platinum tips worth it? Why do they make a difference? Is it worthwhile looking at platinum tips on other spark plugs?

This is probably more useful to coilover owners because of the frequent height changes. i.e. Rather than using a spring compressor, you can just wind the spring perch down to relieve the tension before taking the TMs off, but that messes up your settings.

You can get various camber tools, such as this one - http://www.advantagewheelalignment.com/camber_gauge.html

But I found a cheap and easy way to restore the geometry settings after some suspension work.

I'm focussing on the S80 since it's one of the current models, but the older E48 and P8 Pro are very similar.

My aim (hopefully) is to demonstrate that there is no black art to engine mapping. If you understand your engine and it's fuelling requirements, you will have no trouble mapping it yourself.

The following maps are from my TPS v RPM map which I tuned myself on the road. 440cc injectors, 3 bar static pressure.

Just whipped my plugs out to have a look. 2 are fine and dry, but 2 were slightly dampy and smelling of fuel. Now I am assuming this is not particularly good, but I've not noticed any change in performance and the car is not feeling any different. Any thoughts as to what could be causing this folks?

Whilst im planning what car to build i keep thinking about rear wheel drive and all sorts of different engines. So do you think 20v turbo as people say its the new cossie engine or its best to stick to the original classic engine thats a cossie engine of course. Any other suggestions welcomed.

Evening.

Was fiddling with both Fay's and my VR today, and while looking at the measuring blocks, I noticed that my idle adaption was above 1, somewhere near 1.18, but Fay's was below 1, about 0.95 or something.

Now I know that 1 is stoich, i.e. AFR 14.7:1, so, an adaption value of above 1 indicates that the car is running rich, and below 1 it's running lean.

I.e. above 1, it may have an air leak after the MAF?

Is that right?

New clutch time...

So it's another removal of gearbox to sort out the clutch slippage.

Question is i'm gonna be needing something that will with stand boost spikes

of up to 2Bar turbo press.,1.8 fixed, which will be over 400hp...

The useless 1 i've got now is a Sachs VR press. plate modded with a stronger spring, riinforced Kevlar F1 disc and deeper step machined into the flywheel.

This set-up slips at .8Bar boost, smoke coming out of gearbox bellhousing...

Some1 recommend a good set-up,pref. AP racing etc.

Cheers.

Turbo rebuilding

Ok, so I now have my Garrett T3 turbot, but it needs a rebuild. Is this something that I can undertake myself? I know you can buy turbo rebuild kits, but will it be necessary to get the turbo balanced after fitting the kit? If I can do the rebuild myself, where is te best place to buy the kits from?

Right gents,
What kind of fuel lines would support 500+ponies??,we're always hearing
about this kind of mega turbo being fitted, that kind of piston/rod being installed,8000cc injectors,NOS and all the other bollox.
Strangely enough i rarely see uprated fuel lines mentioned, twin fuel pumps yes but
no info. on bigger lines,bigger barbs,unions etc,etc.
I'm utterly convinced that the O/E 'raddo's fuel line won't cut it...
What do you think?.
