Turbo installs n stuff
This is a place to put all my stupid turbo questions.
Is a BOV the same thing as a wastegate?
Hopefully the questions will get less tupid with time.
grazie.

Re: Turbo installs n stuff
I believe not dude. A wastegate bleeds the exhaust gases to bypass the rubo, when the inlet boost pressure reaches a certain threshold. A BOV releases the pressure in the inlet tract when the throttle closes to stop the trubo stalling, and causeing undue damage.
I think that's right

Re: Turbo installs n stuff
Wastegates control the target boost pressure and BOVs get rid of the boost you don't want.
You won't see a BOV on an OE car, they all use recirc valves.

Re: Turbo installs n stuff
Yeah it depends on setup and personal preference
Some folk love the pshhhhht noise of a BOV and will always go that way, and others prefer the silence of a recirc when changing gear.
The other thing to consider is flow. If you've got a largeish turbo that flows lots, you'll be wanting to get rid of the unwanted boost very quickly, so a big flowing BOV will be required, such as the Tial 50mm, or for recircing, Forge do a big valve and Tial have their new "bong"
Yeah, I use a BOV... the Tial 50mm job.

Re: Turbo installs n stuff
On the VRT you just use the throttle body coolant hoses
I have seen a VRT take water from the back of the block using one of those core plugs though. It's a very neat way to do it!

I guess that is for the water return, rather than supply?
